Course Schedule

To Register:

1) First, candidates must complete CD Prerequisites by clicking on the top green button on the right. Fill out the requested information completely and then click on SUBMIT only one time. CAOHC staff reviews these weekly so please allow time for review. Prerequisites must be complete in order for us to approve you for certification.

2) An automated email will be sent to you once your Prerequisites are approved. At that point, candidates should sign up for a course and exam.

Course Description

A small amount of on-line pre-course work is required prior to the course date. The virtual course will run from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Central Standard Time via Zoom. The course consists of eight hours of focused training intended to prepare candidates to teach their own students about all aspects of an Occupational Hearing Conservation (OHC) program. Special attention will be paid to adult learning teaching methods and how to conduct both the hearing protection and audiometric practicum sections of an OHC course.

CD certification and re-certification are granted for five years.

Course curriculum will include guidance in the following areas:

  • Developing course curricula that meet CAOHC’s current requirements for OHC certification and recertification courses
  • Understanding procedural actions of a CD required by CAOHC before, during and after CAOHC-approved OHC courses
  • Implementing contemporary and motivational teaching techniques and resources (including those provided by CAOHC) for effective hearing conservation training
  • Recognizing how recent changes in federal hearing conservation regulations influence the conduct of CAOHC-approved OHC courses
  • Preparing instructional materials that incorporate recent scientific and technical advances in hearing conservation for use in training conducted by CDs and OHCs

Audience

Candidates must be certified audiologists, industrial hygienists, occupational health nurses, speech language and hearing professionals, safety engineers, noise-control engineers, otolaryngologists or occupational medical physicians.

Fees must be paid in full 7 days prior to course date.

Cancellation

If registration is cancelled (2 weeks prior to the course) participant will receive a refund of their fee (-) a $100.00 processing fee. No refund will be granted for cancellations received after this date, however, the amount can be applied to a future course.

CEUs Available: AAA and ASHA CEUs

AAA

The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity. The program is worth a maximum of  0.7 (7 hours) CEUs. Academy approval of this continuing education activity is based on course content only and does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedure, or adherence of the event to the Academy's Code of Ethics. Any views that are presented are those of the presenter/CE Provider and not necessarily of the American Academy of Audiology.

Advanced Level
0.75 ASHA CEUs (7.5 hours)

Satisfactory completion of this course is necessary for the participant to earn ASHA CEUs for the course.
