OHC Recertification and Extension
Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) must renew their credentials every 5 years. COHCs should maintain their own records to know when they need to recertify.
CAOHC attempts to contact COHCs to remind them of this renewal requirement at the 6-month and 1-year mark, prior to expiration. It is important to keep your contact information current with the CAOHC administrative office.
Use the change of address form to make any updates to your email, mailing address, employer, etc.
Recertification extension
To recertify, COHCs need to locate a recertification course. If courses aren't available or there are extenuating circumstances preventing the COHC from registering close to or before the expiration date, please complete the recertification extension application at least 30 days before certification expires. Extensions will not be granted after the expiration date. COHCs who do not request an extension have to retake the 20-hour certification course.
Examples of extenuating circumstances:
- Family death or illness
- Military deployment
- Medical leave
- Cancellation of a course you have registered for
- Lack of courses in your area
- Employment-related conflict
